From 23 high-profile designs, the jury had to choose which face the New Hauner on Campus Grosshadern should get. The internationally renowned architects from Germany, Austria and France had filed challenging visions, which should combine the high functional requirements with an attractive design. The first place occupied Nickl & Partner architects from Munich. State Minister Dr. Ludwig Spaenle did not miss to announce the winner by himself.
In addition to the winners are two other designs in the race for the final decision: Architects ZT – Albert Wimmer ZT from Vienna occupied the second place, third place were Riegler Riewe Architekten ZT from Graz. With all three award winners were held talks to investigate the feasibility of the predefined schedules and financial limits. By the fall of 2015, the decision for one of the designs is following.
With the end of the expected construction period from 2018 to 2022, there is a completely new clinic in Munich created. For the first time pediatrics, pediatric surgery and gynecology will be united under one roof. Thus, the disciplines can be better linked and complement each other over short distances. Great importance is placed on the intensive research, which characterizes the children medicine in Munich for a long time.
Minister of Science Dr. Ludwig Spaenle says in the announcement of the Architecture Prize winner: „With the new Hauner we create a modern center for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the highest level, which will have an impact far beyond Munich. The building will offer all the possibilities of high -tech medicine and is intended to be a place where sick children and young people and their parents feel well cared for. Its architecture will contribute to the recovery of children and adolescents.
